Grading Procedures

Major Grades:

We will be using a grading system called Standards Based Grading for all major grades.

How is this going to work?

We have a list of Theatre Standards that we will use to evaluate each student.  These standards are derived from the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Theatre that we are required to teach in a school year. We have created a student assessment chart in google sheets for each student that will include every major grade assignment for the year as well as a conduct assesment for each week. With each assignment, there will be specific standards that are graded and they will be listed on the google sheets rubric. We will grade each student individually (yes, even in group projects) on those specific standards. They will receive a grade on a scale of 0-4. The gradebook equivalent of those numbers are:

4 = 100, 3 = 89, 2 = 79, 1 = 69, 0 = 60

You will see these specific numbers on the google form for each major grade assignment and the final grade will be an average of the mastery of each standard. The assignment/six weeks average will be any combination of those five numbers.  You or your student may access their grade sheet anytime by clicing on the google forms link that will be available in canvas.  The grade sheets will be totally confidential as only the teacher, parent and student will have the link to access the google sheet. Students/ parents may request a print out of any rubric at any time and shall receive one within 24 hours.  All students rubrics will be deleted at the end of the academic year.

Minor grades:

Students receive a participation grade every week: Respect, Effort, Preperation, Focus, Engagement, Follows rules and Safety will be evaluated on the 0-4 scale and averaged together for the weeks participation grade

Visual aids such as artwork, props, masks, outlines, lyrics, etc. will accompany some projects and be graded on the 0-4 scale

Other minor grades include but are not limited to quizes, worksheets - these will be graded on a numeric sale from 0-100
